I am not one who normally talks about Politics ....... but I just have to say a few things.
Back in 2000 - during the Bush and Gore election, I voted for Gore. Then the whole election craptasticness pissed me off to the point where I did NOT vote for the following two Presidential elections. It made me feel like my vote didn't count. Gore had more votes, but not more electoral votes, and I just felt so disheartened ....
I didn't vote in 2004 cuz I knew Bush was going to win again, and I knew my vote wouldn't matter.
I didn't vote in 2008 because I didn't like either of the candidates and even though I thought it would be amazing to be a part of the whole "First Black President" in office in my lifetime, I wasn't convinced he was the right guy for the job.
Let's be honest.... Bush Jr. left an unbelievable mess for the 43rd Prez to clean up. You name it, it was craptastic. Our country started out screwed up when Obama went into office in 2005. And it's messed up to blame him for the way Bush Jr. left things. It took 8 years for Bush Jr. to screw up this country .. you can't expect Obama to fix it in 1 or 2 years. It'll probably take Obama and who ever comes AFTER Obama to fix it. Seriously - let's put blame where it belongs.
Am I happy with everything Obama has done........ no...... but then again, we could blame Congress for that too.
But this year ...... I voted. For the first time in 12 years ...... I voted. YAY for voting. And guess who I voted for! It wasn't for "Oven Mitt" or "Romney Noodles" ... or whatever I feel like calling him that particular moment....
Why?
The biggest thing - his 47% comment. Being someone who is poor - especially when the situation is what it is....... I don't take lightly when someone says they - basically - aren't the POOR PEOPLE's President .....
The Quote "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
I (We) have paid taxes EVERY YEAR OF OUR LIVES ..... I don't feel entitled but I am GRATEFUL for any help we can get. We aren't milking "welfare" ... we are in a bad situation and trying to figure a way out. But to grouped in this comment because we are the the "Lower-Class" really irritated me. And of course, OF COURSE, he's going to apologize and try to smooth things over, but the damage was already done.
So all I have to say is - that 47% kicked your butt Oven Mitt. Maybe next time you decide to run for President - you should worry about EVERYONE, including us gutter rotting poor.
No matter who wins, people are going to be mad, and dramatic and sit there and cry in their morning cereal. Everyone has things they are passionate about and that they stand firm on .... and that's what makes us human and not Stepford Wives (or husbands?).
And then he attacked poor Big Bird.........
What did Big Bird ever do!?!?
THE QUOTE: "I'm going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I'm going to stop other things. I like PBS. I love Big Bird. I actually like you too, but I'm not going to spend money on things to borrow money from China to pay for."
PBS is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization ... just like all the other nonprofit organizations, I'm sure they do all the fund raising they can (which we all know cuz we've all tuned in during their fund raising attempts.) .... so if he's going to stop one nonprofit organization that actually helps our children learn ..... in a fun way ...... then what's next.
So ...... this says to me.... Romney Noodles is anti-poor and anti-education. Big Bird agrees ...
Oh and I know - there are going to be some (lots) that don't like my comments and want to set me straight ...... but remember, I don't like politics, so I don't care. You'd be wasting your breath.
But I am sorry some of my friends aren't happy. I'm sorry that they feel let down and disillusioned like I did way back when.
In other news ....... Washington State had a big night. First off......... the right for Gay's to marry was APPROVED! YAY!!!!
I am - obviously straight and married to a man - however, I fully believe that everyone has the right to have the right to marry who they love. And there is a huge gay community in Seattle that was dancing in the streets last night (literally) .....
And then there is the whole ....... Pot .............. Thing.
I'm not a fan. Just not. I think it's ridiculous that this was passed. "We can tax it" .... yeah but what about the increase of people who are high out there driving - more DWI's and more people getting killed on the streets (course this is my opinion.) There is a ton of chatter on facebook this morning - people talking about how they are so excited to have had this passed and planning all sorts of ..... medicinal baking. Although I find it amusing, I don't agree with it.
I have a neighbor who smokes it around her kids. And it pisses me off. I don't care if she has a medical need where she gets it through her doctor or not, she shouldn't be doing it where her kids - or others - can get high off the second hand smoke.... it's not right. People can argue it's natural and it's an herb - and to that - I could say - so is Oleander ..... bake that in some brownies and see how you feel after. Or how about some Nightshade. It's natural... I bet it'll make you feel real good!
Just because something is out there, growing and untouched by man, doesn't make it okay to consume.
Course........ again... that's just my close minded opinion.
A friend of mine posted this on my facebook last night with the caption ........
"I heard ya'll had a new restaurant in town!"
Colorado also passed this ........ so now all the pot heads will be rushing to Washington or Colorado. Prepare for population increases in those two states. People are packing up as we speak. (er.... read).
So again ....... Congratulations President Obama .... I hope that you continue to make moves to fix our country and I hope that you see where you can make more improvements to help our country become better.
And for those of you who aren't happy with the results ...... of the Presidential election or even your local ones.... just remember .....
